Great combination hwy/mudder

I have a set of 35's on a robust Gen I Toyota 4wd pickup. I have a strong suspension on the chassis, so the tires/wheels get a lot of structural support. I have ridden these tires through deep standing water on very bad muddy, rooty, sloppy logging roads in monsoon rains (East Texas), and never so much as spun a tire. I also run them on my truck when I take road trips to the hog woods, about 150 mi one way on a 4-lane highway. Fuel consumption is fine at about 20mpg. Road noise is acceptable (35psi).

I run 35" on a '97 TJ. These have worn quicker than expected for radial tires, but not too too bad. I have had sidewall issues on 2 tires, but 1 of them I think any tire would have failed. I have not had cupping issues others have mentioned, and they are not much loader than the BFG ATs before them. They also track better than most MT at hwy speed. Off road rock crawling they have hooked up very well at 10 -12 psi. Below 10 psi I was popping beads, but were otherwise hooking up extremely well (read, at 8 psi you need bead locks). They have also performed well in sand, even at 25+ psi. If you like or find yourself in mud often, look elsewhere. I think my next set will be KM2s. I will also say they look great, but I am into performance not looks.

X-Terrain Must Mean Dirt and Rock

I have two sets, 33" & 35" just gave away the 35"s and installed KM2's. In SoCal deserts X-Terrains's excel, IF, they are aired down. The 33's have been on the Jeep for two years and are still going strong. As they wear they are getting noisy. Getting the right air pressure can be a chore and have had one flat after throwing a bead running 8psi in heavy rock. The 35's have worn faster than the 33's. These tires need good shocks and a tight, properly aligned suspension/steering setup. Light shocks or alignment issues will wear the fronts down quickly. They are down right scary in packed snow, worthless in any ice, don't clear mud well, if the pack up you'll need to find hard ground to get them cleared and they can be a challenge in rain. Run some siping and they're much better. Great desert tire, great looking. If you're in the southwest they're a good choice. |

Worst tire ever. Suck in rain. Suck in snow. Suck in mud. Suck climbing. Milage suck. I thought my Thornbirds were noisy.

Dont recomend | |

I have been running these for about a year and really don't like them at all. They wear fast, cup badly and talk about noisy/vibrations! They have performed adequately off-road in mud and they do pretty well on rocks when aired down. If it rains they slip. If its snowing you better have some good armor cause your going into that ditch if your not driving like my grandma. Forget about it on icy roads. There's nothing worse than having a 4 inch lift and 35's and watching a Toyota Camry take a turn better than you in 2 inches of snow. Horrible choice of tire for Colorado. I want my BFG's back :-( All that being said these tires might perform better in a dry climate like phoenix. They are still going to wear badly and cup like a son of a gun. One of thing, I have had 5 punctures in the last year with these tires. No blowouts and it could just be my bad luck but it sure seems like a lot of stuff is able to poke holes in these puppies. My BFG's only had 1 flat in 3 years, that was from a screw driver that fell off a truck in front of me. Which would take out just about any tire. |

Twice Had Same Results | |

I've owned two (2) sets of these tires, 33's on my Jeep Wrangler. Great profile and "looking" tire, but a terrible performer. I honestly think when I hear people say these tires are not loud that they are nuts. These tires are very loud on the road. I now have BFG MT's and the difference is night and day how much more quiet the bfg's are. And as others have stated, there is a serious rumble vibration with the Xterrain's at low speeds. The worst part of the Xterrain is how quickly they wear though. Say bye bye fast if you use your vehicle as a daily driver. The first set I thought it was me, the second set I knew better. Never again. If you're trying to get by on the street with a worthy off road tire - this is not the one. |

These tires are great in summer on SOME offroad on hwy they wear really fast. Now it is winter, and there is absolutely no traction on the snow or ice. Just about cracked up the truck 3 times in 15 miles. The worst ice/snow ever

35x12.5x15 review | |

After about a 1,000 miles of street, rock crawling and beach\sand I am pleased. Very predictable on the street and hwy, and quiet for an aggressive tire. Aired down to about 12 psi (although I think 10 psi will be even better) these hooked up very well rockcrawling. In sand at about 25 psi they worked better then expected. They floated well and did not dig in or try to make holes. As far a mud, I can't speak for that, but I don't like mudding anyway. I was looking for something for rocks and trails, yet w/ road manors. These appear to work well. I will report after 10K+ miles if anything changes. |

These have been great unless you get in some sticky mud. They dont clean well and they turn into slicks. I have an 88 range rover and drove 1200 miles round trip to canada for some wheelin. They were amazing in the snow, never had to chain up. Quiet on the road with no vibration. Can't comment on long term conditions as i have a set of radials i swap with when i'm not wheelin. But overall great value. I bought mine when they had their buy3 get one free deal and saved a couple hundred over BFGs.

I have an 03 TJ x with bfg MTs which r great and an 06 rubi with these. These tires suck. Off road, i cant go up hills or get traction anywhere. On road, they are noisy and wear quickly. The big lugs make for loud driving conditions and poor gas mileage. They are also horrible in the rain. Worst tires made.

Great off road choice | |

I bought 33x12.5x15 for my 97TJ and I love them. The only thing that could be better is tread life is about 22K. Road noise is equal to an AT, finding the right street psi will eliminate cupping, and make sure that the tires are balanced by someone that isn't making minimum wage. In other words go to someplace you trust or that deals with off road tires regularly. I never had a problem with climbing anything at the OHV park.

pretty good all-round tire

I got these after running a set of ProComp M/Ts. I have been pleased over the last 2 years of ownership. They do pretty good in most all surfaces. Moderate mud is no problem. Sand is pretty good. I ran 25psi on my '98 ZJ at Moab, and never had an issue with them. I did have a failure of a major suspension component. The r/f tire went through HELL coming off the trail. It sacraficed itself, but I was able to drive it out. The tires cupped a little, but I consider it my falt because I did a backyard alignment job. They are not nearly as noisy as the M/Ts I had before them. I think they are pretty good as an all-round semi-aggressive tire. |

Great all around serious off road rubber

I replaced my BFG AT's with these recently. Firstly let me say, quiet on the hwy. When doing normal around town speed or hwy spd, I cant tell if I have the BFG's or XTerrains! Havent done winter paved roads with them yet, however the mud holes we have been in lately, I have kept up with everyone with Swampers, BFG MT's or GY MTR's, no issues. Air down well. A slight noise at low town speeds, nice hum actually. Damn good rubber overall. |

I have had a set of these on my 03 wrangler & they stink. Between the uneven wear, feathering, noise, & roughness when accelerating or comming to a stop, I would not advise anyone to put them on a wrangler that is a daily driver. If your jeep is primary an off road vech. than these still stink. I have dropped down to 12 psi, rubbed the sidewall hard & crawled over some nasty things with them with only one problem. One tire seperated internally. Do not install unless you want alot of noise & problems.

Great City/Country | |

Love these. Have had 33s on TJ for 5 months and have been very pleased. I'm amazed how quiet these are on the way to the trail (and still give a great little hum as you slow to a stop), and they don't get bouncy/spungy at speed like some oversized can. They have performed very well on mixed trails with mud/gravel/sharp-loose rock. Only down is that they catch and throw small rocks when traveling on gravel - gotta be careful with top down - but most agressive treads will. Like them much better than BGF ATs I had on last truck.

i have 33 xterrains on my jeep. they are better than all terrains but suck compared to mud tires when in the mud.i used to never get stuck until i got these tires. they dont clean in the mud at all.they are realy good in sand though and last on the road pretty good.i will not buy these tires again and they are not cheap. i recomend bfg mud terrains, tsl, tslsx, ltb, boggers, or mickey thompson baja belted if you play in the mud

i ran the 35/12.5/R15 considering that i offroad every weekend they wear very well. they are quite. they are fantastic for rock crawling and trail riding very tough tire. rolled jeep off of 600ft cliff and the tires survived. great in the rain and snow due to its siping. equal to a bfg mud terrain in the mud. dont fall for mickey thompsons similar design these perform better. |

Way quiet especially compared to my friends MTRs. Good on rock and road conditions. Not very good in mud or snow. Great price when bought on 4 Wheel Parts buy 3 get 1 free deals they do every couple months. Wear has been decent and even, look great, and have taken some brutal sharp rocks on the sidewall. NOTE: They are directional, I have 35x1250x15s |
