Warn Gas Tank Skid Plate - Reviews

This skid is pretty tough, about 2x the weight and thickness of the stocker. My stock skid got dented in about 3 inches, and I never noticed but my fuel capacity was down by a good 3 gallons! Plus my fuel gauge would do some funny stuff too- the new skid let the tank go back to its original shape (the tank itself is plastic)and now all those issues are gone. Instructions aren't bad, there just gets to be a point where you disconnect the gas lines and you see what you need to do- drop the tank, switch skids and put it all back the way it was. It would be nice if it gave you even more ground clearance, I measured one inch gained. But it's limited by the stock tank height- there is nowhere to go vertically because the tank is already right against the floor. Now it's a little higher, a lot smoother on the bottom and WAY more sturdy the next time you smack it. You DO NOT need a body lift to put this in a 2003+ TJ. This is why I chose this one. If you have a body lift, you may want the Kilby because it will tuck up a little more and give a bit extra clearance. |

I would have rated the skid a 10 but the instructions are worthless. WARN leaves out several important steps including the disconnecting of two fuel lines. Save yourself time and fustration by downloading the Kilby fuel tank skid instructions.

The WARN skid plate has been redesigned. It does not increase ground clearance anymore, it actually REDUCES ground clearance over stock. The welds are top notch and the powder coating is superb, but you will be dragging it on the ground constantly if you go off-road. Spend a few bucks more and get the Kilby. |

The Warn unit is really nice and cheaper than the Kilby. I think Warn pretty much reverse engineered the Kilby unit. To my knowledge material thickness and added ground clearance are identical between the two.
