Customer Rating Better Bolts

D30HP and D35. Stock covers were 10ga stamped steel. Added the armor. It works. At install I tossed the button head cap screws right away. Used stainless 5/16-18unc x 1 1/4 length socket cap screws on the armor cover, use 1" lenght above. 5/16 allen key and no stipping. Could have used a hex head bolt and thin wall deep socket but clearance was really touch and go, the cap screws were my next best option. Havn't had any of the heads damaged so far and they seem to just tuck out of the way but the armor has taken some hits. Button heads are always more prone to strip. You will only need 20 ftlb tightening. Us flat wash and split lock wash and antisieze on the threads. The Peep, TCJC, Ontario, Canada

Customer Rating Included screws ruin this deal.

I bought both the dana 44 rear and dana 30 front cover. As most people have said, i experienced the same problem with the screws. Once tightened to the recommended torque, these screws strip out.

What a piece of junk. How are you suppose to tighten these things properly. I can't believe WARN ruined this set of covers with low grade bolts. Why not use simple bolts with a regular head instead?

I returned these and paid a bit more for WP covers. At least they use regular bolts.

Customer Rating Pissed about the stupid screws

I bought both the D30 and D44 and later found out about the stupid Allen screws. I had to return the plates simply beacuase I could not find a hex bit at a reasonable price. Why do I have to be foreced to buy my own replacement bolts? Come on desingers at Warn, why could't you just use the plain old hex bolts like everyone else?

Customer Rating Good skid, terrible screws.

I haven't had a chance to test my new Warn skids but I based my purchase off of friends recommendations. I'm pleased with their construction, they appear to be very well made. I agree with a previous reviewer that said the screws are soft. After tightening the supplied bolts to the specified torque the bolts almost stripped. One actually did! They are very soft, if your going to go with the Warn do yourself a favor and go to home depot and buy yourself some stainlesss steel fasteners.

Customer Rating nice choice

I have the D30 skid for the front of my YJ. I would recommend the Warn diff skid if you are in the market. Easy to install and it seems pretty beefy. I've banged it off of a few rocks and it has held up well. A nice choice.

Customer Rating Warn Diff Guards
Date: Sep 23, 2004
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Los Angeles, CA)
I have both the Dana 30 and Dana 44 guards and really like the design of them. Perhaps there are diff guards out there that would be more applicable to extreme crawling but Warn guards suit my needs perfectly. The only complaint I have is with the included hardware. The button head allen wrench bolts were really soft, after torquing to spec they were almost stripped out in some cases. Maybe the hardware wasn't heat treated properly? After getting my own hardware that problem was fixed.
