I put these on my 2" lifted jeep commader less than 6 months ago an one has already snapped off at the upper mounting bolt point. I would not be upset as much if I had abused them but they have seen very little off road use meaning driving down a dirt road as my version of off road. It actually snapped off when I was driving on the street. For the price an all the hype these shocks are given, I would tell anyone who is thinking of getting these to save your money an buy something else.

Bilstien 5150 shock review 2002 TJ Wrangler, 4.5" lift

I recently upgraded to my control arms to long arm kit, I was using the rubicon express , lower end shocks before. With the old shocks, they would warm up and just give no performence whats so ever. I knew to get full benifit of my new long arm kit I would need upgrade the shocks. I know little to nothing about what to use for shocks, I did some researching and wanted not to spend a hole lot, I setteled for the 5150 shocks. On road, they feel fine, a bit "stiff" not to bad, the ride feels progresive If iam on a poor road, the front wheels just want to keep more stable and not jerk me around as much. Off road, this is the best part! With old shocks they felt like they were lagging and would give a more "thrown around" feel, with these shocks it almost feels the wheels know exactly where to grab (if that makes sense). Surely great, no more over heating the shocks, very smooth feel. Down side these sucks , for my TJ stock mount used the threaded rod, I had to cut off the stock mounts fabericate up new ones (Bilstien sells kits for this, but I then I would have to drop down the shorter shocks 10"). Iam happy with them, anyone looking for a 100 dollar shock, go for it! |

I installed a set of four Bilstien 5150 reservior shocks on my Jeep and I am most pleased with them. My Jeep has 4" lift Superlift softride springs. I had to use use extended shock mounts on the front in order to use the 10" shock. Prior this I had Rancho RS 5000's, the difference in both the ride and handling with the new shocks is amazing. There is enough dampening to drive the Jeep as a prerunner for our Baja race team and yet is still not harsh in the slow stuff. |
