Summary: I wanted this car then and cant part with it now. 172000 plus miles and just started having some transmission problems. I had the system flushed and changed the filters and had a few days where the Engine Over Temp came on but its been a couple of weeks now, and smooth sailing. I know she may not last in the long haul but I have not had any other mechanical issues in 13 years. Shes a workhorse and I will hold on to her until she cant go on. I know its weird but after 3 moves from 3 different states, she deserves it! Strengths: Low maintenance and she looks great! Classic style! Weaknesses: Cant think of any |

Does it all for me | |

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (England)
Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: Had this when it was 17 months old and ive never stopped smiling yet. We have done about 80k miles in comfort, serviced it every year and has given me trouble free motoring, parts that wear out are quite cheap to replace, the interior is very good has all the toys and gadgets that come as standard on the limited version to much to list here. I've had a 2 inch lift fitted and go off roading as often as I can and it performs faultlessly which is amazing with the abuse I can give it. It has the merc v6 3.0 crd engine that makes about 218 hp for a 3 ton truck its quite quick off the mark, done a remap on the ecu and have now got it to 290 hp. Unable to get many offroad goodies for it as I was told most people don't use them for offroading WHY its great. Best 4x4 I've ever had and I've owned quite a few. Strengths: very reliable , plenty of room inside , great ride on and off road .well built . beats most other 4x4 into the ground . Weaknesses: 21 mpg leather seats are not 100% leather just look it . not enough upgrade parts made for it . |

Still going but at what cost???

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Fairfield County, CT)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I have had many problems with this vehicle but must say, it's still going! The repairs have cost a few dollars, and some of the issues were so expensive that I decided to forego the fix, so the car has multiple issues still, but it's driveable. Stinks in the snow for such a heavy vehicle. Have seen other reviews that mention door problems and sensor lights; I do have the same. I would NOT recommend the vehicle. It is unfortunate since both my husband and I own the Commander, but from different years, and BOTH of our vehicles have had lots of problems. However, my husband's car is still going, too, and has 188,000 miles! Mine at 144,000, but don't think it'll make another 10,000... Strengths: Good for travel due to much space, but uncomfortable for passengers. Weaknesses: See above... |

My Vehicle is a death trap. Strengths: Look Weaknesses: Short life span -- excessive repair costs -- unidentifiable error codes -- unreliable |

Summary: Other then the low gas mileage 15mpg, this is a fantastic car. Lots of head room and leg room. 147,000 miles and going strong with the 3.7L. Maintained 3000 mile oil change. This is my 4th Jeep, cherokees that went 300,000 miles. No leaks no handle breakage, catalytic converters need to be done at 500 a converter. So quiet in side. No major mechanical issues so far. I will keep this car until it does not run any longer. Been garaged and the paint looks brand new. The leather seats are beautiful. Strengths: Quiet, superb ride. Weaknesses: Acceleration could be better but it is a 3.7 in a heavy car. This is not an issue for me since i baby my car. Backing up is a challange beeper helps and bad blind spots on both sides, extra mirrors fixed that. |

2006 Jeep Commander Limited

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Pensacola, FL)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I purchased my Jeep in April 2007 and it stalled on me June 2007. I have been taking it in since 27 June 2007. I have used 2 dealers and neither of them can tell me why the vehicle keeps stalling. Once they connect it to the machine there are no readings. Please let me know if anyone else has had the same problems. I finally got the headlights and interior lights from flashing. The cloth on the 2nd row still looks dirty 2-3 months after a detail. I was told to contact the NHTSA and they have started a ticket on me and I getting ready to forward them the invoices from my trips to the dealer for stalling. If you have any similar problems please contact the NHTSA (1800 763 8422) My packet for the NHTSA goes back in the mail this week. Strengths: Beautiful body style, comfortable leather seats, navigation on point, It's a V8 with plenty of power as long as it doesn't stall. 3 rows of seats or drop 3rd rown and use the space for storage Weaknesses: Stalls without warning Sunroof drains into vehicle on passenger floor 2nd row seats (cloth below the leather stains as if you wasted somethng on it even after a great detail) Low gas mileage, but if you can afford the vehicle the gas is normal. |

Summary: Instrument panel lights came on almost immediately after buying brand new. Side floor board gets wet from leaky window. Sunroof began to get stuck so i never opened it again. The door handles on both sides cracked then broke & It is dangerous. What if I had to exit Car in a hurry and could not. Jeep should & would be liable. I agree Anyone experiencing the same issues lets collectively sue them to repair faulty defects. Strengths: Shape & spacious. Weaknesses: Too much money to be falling apart with only 45K miles & treated like a baby. Worse than stated gas milage ...Sad. |

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: My 2007 Jeep Commander will accelerate when I have foot on brake and am completely stopped. While at ATM machine one day was accelerating while in park. Very scarry when I am at stop light with foot on brake and the truck will accelerate like it wants to go. Jeep dealership say it's in the diferencial said a maintenance service. Want me to pay almost $500.00. I think it's a manufacturer problem. Anyone else have this problem with Jeep Commander? Strengths: Size and comfort Weaknesses: water leaks on passenger side floor. Accelerates when at when complete stop foot on brake or in park. |

Summary: All the door handles have broken because of basic design flaw the cost to replace is $800 per door which is outrageous every part store will tell you this is not an isolated case. You can't even get used parts. We need to do aclass action lawsuit. This is a very unsafe fault where a child may stuck inside a jeep when there is an accident and burned to death. Sincerely, Patricia R. in Clearwater Fl Strengths: comfort room Weaknesses: Door handles and gas guzzler. |

Very expensive to repair and own
Date: May 04, 2012 | |
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Boston, MA)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: My 2006 Commander is quite comfortable and quiet inside, it drives smoothly although the transmission can be a bit sluggish, especially shifting into reverse. Strengths: Looks nice, comfortable ride Weaknesses: Transmission replaced at 36k Two, bank 2 o2 sensors replaced in the past 3 years, have to replace it again now! Passenger airbag light comes on randomly Average Hwy mpg: 16, City 12 Parts are VERY expensive, that's what you get with Mercedes parts in it! Takes at least 2-3 seconds to shift into reverse Door handle on drivers side broke, passengers side is cracked - to fix you need to replace the whole door panel for $500! Poor legroom in the middle seats, virtually no room in the 3rd row Poor layout for cargo - it always falls out when you open the back! Poor cargo capacity for a vehicle this size. Had to ship a 30" square box and I couldn't get it to the UPS store in the Jeep! I had to borrow a friend's compact car! Paint on the bumpers has been cracking and chipping off for the past 3 years Clear coat on wheels has been bubbling for 2 years. Should've been covered under warranty but the dealership gave me the run around until my warranty was up. Can't roll down just the rear windows when going over 30MPH without the cabin resonating at about 12 hertz |

Summary: After reading all the reviews on hear I am furious. I am having all of the same electrical problems and water leaking. Same messageing on dash re: park assist and transmission over heat. My check engine comes on and they can't find out why. I will be driving and all of a sudden it wont accelerate. Not sure what to do at this point. I can't believe we all have the same problems and seems Chrysler won't do a damn thing about it. It's in the shop now cuz it wouldn't start. NOt sure what the will say this time cuz i really don't think they know! Strengths: looks Weaknesses: everything i put in review. Also has amphitheater seating which makes it very hard to see behind you. |

Great 4X4 | |

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Wichita, KS)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I bought it used with 85K on it and NO problems. Runs, shifts and handles like new. The 545RFE Transmission is known as a great tranny (Many problems you are seeing are from SPORT Commanders with the 3.7. The NAG-1 is not a good transmission.) The front seats are GREAT to sit in and all the features you can think of. I will say that the interior is above average. The Leather is some of the best I have felt and the sound is amazing. Great exhaust note! With the Quadradrive II you cant get stuck aside form low ground clearance. No leaks with my Commander. I found the owners insurance card in the glove box and called them (Carmax cant give info out like that) and they said that it has had nothing but a window motor go out. It now has 100K and feels like it is brand new. I would recommend it with the 4.7 or 5.7 but if it has the 3.7 look else were. Strengths: Front seats, features, 7 passenger, 4X4 system, looks and it is reliable. Weaknesses: The cargo capacity with 3rd row up, rattle from one of the skylights, small leg room. |

76,000 miles and so far so good

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Northern California)
Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: I bought my 2007 V6 4x4 used from a Jeep dealership in 2008 with 26.000 miles on it. I believe it was a previous daily rental. Knock on wood but so far it has been a great car for us. Other than standard oil changes, the recommended 60k service, brakes, shocks/struts and tires have had zero issues. It rides great on or off road and it is the perfect SUV for a family. It is easy to drive and park but big enough to haul arounds kids, dogs and all the various stuff a family needs. The V6 is underpowered for my taste but it works, I have hauled a small ski boat and a pop up trailer on separate trips up the mountain to Lake Tahoe and it performered just fine. We could climb the hill at 65-70 mph without much effort. I think it is a great value as a used SUV, we picked it up for about $16,000. I don't think I would like it as much if I would have dropped $30k on it brand new. It is a nice affordable SUV for a typical suburban family. Strengths: Good value and very affordable used Very attractive styling IMO Good cargo room Easy to drive and park for a 7 seat SUV Weaknesses: V6 is underpowered Gas mileage is poor for an underpowered V6 Interior is very basic and somewhat cheap looking... which is fine for a used SUV under $18k but not acceptable and their price point when new. |

Summary: I bought my 2007 Jeep Commander used, had a Wrangler before and love both of them. Only real issues with the Commander is the water from the sunroof, but my dealer cleans the drains out for free when I need...takes 20 minutes. Second issue has been my front brakes squeaking....very loud and embarrassing. Dealer says nothing wrong with them but wondering if any other Commander owner has had the same issue?? Other than that I am still in love with my Jeep!! Strengths: Looks, performance, reliability Weaknesses: small third row seat, squeaky brakes |

See Edmunds as Well | |

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (New York, New York)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I have had same problems everyone else here (and on Edmunds) has detailed from the non-working components of the commander to the extremely poor attitude of the Jeep Dealer that I purchased from (Norwalk, Georgetown, CT). The car is basically being rebuilt by my within months after purchasing it from the dealer. Repairs weren't conclusive until i brought the commander to an independent repair place with a Jeep Expert. Now though I have problems with the radio. the buttons on the bottom of the radio panel are not working. does anyone have experience with this problem. the Jeep Expert that has rebuilt the commander does not do radios. it's also difficult to find audio radio expert with jeep commander experience; that familiarity with this 'finnicky' Jeep is imnportant because i don't want to spend too much $ on finding the problem...because i know from experience how very much it is going to cost me to actually fix the problem. This is my 3rd Jeep purchase and will absolutely be my last because the stellar experience of the first two do not outweigh the inconvenience and disgust i have felt with this 3rd. what's more, i certaibly won't need to purchase another because in all good conscience i can't possible sell this to someone else, i couldn't even give it away. I purchased this jeep, replacing a Jaguar, in order to reduce costs of maintaining but obviously it's been anything but cost efficient. Jeep is not at all what it used to be; Jeep is a long way's away from its historical status as a dependable car and Jeep a respectable corporation. (did i read someone say here that the dealer told them not to drive a Jeep through puddles ????) Strengths: it's exterior look. Weaknesses: everything under the hood, behind the dashboard and the lack of integrity, pride and business ethics of Jeep Corporate and the particular Jeep Dealer that I purchased from. |

Vehicle: 2008 Jeep Commander
Summary: We bought it almost brand new Dec 2008. We have NEVER had a prob with it. I live in OR and I've never had a leak and it rains a ton here! We've taken it off roading in AZ and romped the crap out of it and have taken it out here in OR too and it was a champ! When we bought it there was 15 inches of snow on the ground and we never needed chains. This thing was pulling other people out of the snow including a park Ranger at Mt St Helens when they had snow up to the floor boards. It knows when it needs to go into 4 wheel drive.. It has the 4.7 V8 and had a ton of guts. My husband just put a 2 inch lift on it and is going to put the rubicon tires on it. Ya I wish it had better gas milleage but its a very heavy well made vehicle and I feel that my kids and us are very safe in it. I have the 3rd row seat in mine I have used it with kids and I've sat back there too. Its not great but it gets the job done. I wish I could see out the back window with them up but its higher so the people in the back can see and my daughter doesnt get car sick back there.. It has back up sensors which I LOVE and rear AC. Its an Awesome Vehicle. I feel so spoiled. Jeep out did themselves. We have added a remote start from the dealer and are soon gonna add a performance exhast.... Strengths: Has guts!, Beautiful! Smart! Tuff! Weaknesses: What weakness?? My Jeep can out perform your Vehicle!! |

Chrysler Jeep POOR Service - 12/7/2011
Date: Dec 07, 2011 | |
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Clearwater, FL)
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I purchased my Jeep Commander used not even 2 years ago. I did buy the extended warranty and thank heavens I did. Thus far I have had my Jeep in service and stuck with a rental more than 5 times. The first issue was the water leaking through the handles in the front of the vehicle, next was the panel air bag light would not go off, then the panel lights all began non stop flashing, air conditioner died, and now both the interior PLASTIC door handles are broke (cracked) on passenger side of the vehicle. I have had to pay 150$ up front for every issue. Except just found out the handles are not covered, Chrysler customer service claims they are not able to do anything because I have 64K miles and it is 2006. I find it interesting Chrysler is not doing anything about these issues. Strengths: The only benefit is that this vehicle fits my family and has storage capacity for home improvement projects. Weaknesses: * Panel lights went out, ignition problem * Passenger seat airbag sensors went bad - lost my vehicle for a week to get this fixed. * Water leak - another 150$ * Air Conditioner - part inside broke * Passenger side door handles broken - front seat is 535.00 and back is 350.00 plus labor of 100.00 - not covered and do not have a thousand dollars to repair on my own. |

Summary: I loved my jeep commander buttt it has left me stranded at mall when engine overheated. It has needed new tires and battery. Ive only had it for 2 years to drive around town. It has 46000. I bought it 2 years old. The worst problem that i have now is me belt. Noone can help me they say the car was not designed to have an undercarraige shiled yet everytime i go through a puddle, a small puddle at low speeds my steering locks up . I cant turn the wheel untill you hear a loud screech assuming from the belt and then i get my steering back. I brought it to my mechanic and when they couldnt help i thought for sure jeep service would. Well they didnt my service receipt says " avoid puddles at all costs" . who tells someone that their car cant go through puddles. Does anyone have any suggestions or help bc its scary to drive . Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I've purchased my jeep in November of 2006 the year it was first made and it only had 3000 miles on it. I had absolutely loved this car. My family and I would vacation and it never gave me any trouble until about two years ago when the tramission began giving me problems. My family and I were on vacation when this happened. I had took it to the shop and they had fixed it. About 7 months after i had gotten it fixed it happened again. It's very upsetting when you have to pay so much money for the same problem that should of been fixed the first time. I had took my car to the shop on November 5, 2011 for the transmission but they told me it was not the transmission it was some other electrical problem. So they charged me almost $2000. That Tueday I had picked up my car and the problem was not fixed because the gears were not changing. They had said they had to give me a new transmission. I knew it was the transmission the first time I had took it but they said that was not the problem. I had got my jeep back from them on December 2,2011 and paid over $1300 for it and as I was driving back home with my daughter the transmission light came back on and the gears were not changing and it was jerking. My daughter and I was on the highway when this happened and had to pull over for a little bit and I had to take my time getting home. I have to take it back to them but I have paid over $3000 to get my car fixed and it still not fixed this is definitley bad business. But otherwise this car had been good other than the transmission and other electrical problems. Strengths: Sporty and good for weather like the snow Weaknesses: transmission and seating is very uncomfortable especially the third row |

2006 Commander Sport | |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I bought my Commander "used" off a dealer lot with 21 miles, so it was for all intents a new car when I purchased it. I use my Commander for business and have over 75k on it. It can park anywhere thanks to the Park Assist and can carry my load of stuff with ease. The 3.7 V6 is anemic and I would have preferred the 4.7 V8 for the one mile per gallon difference. The "tiptronic" manumatic transmission helps the V6 climb hills by letting me select gears to lock the gear rations at. Interior: Great dashboard, and lots of cubbies to stuff business cards, pens, and what not. The dashboard was one of the reasons I bought the Jeep. The seats are the standard gray cloth, and are showing some stains from the heavy use. But I protect the fabric as best I can and it's wearing well. The front driver's seat is a little uncomfortable for my 6-4" frame on long trips. A flatter, wider seat cushion would have been nicer. The center arm rest's a little low for tall folks who have the seat raised up like I do. Visibility out of the front windshield is very limited, particularly at stoplights. No electrical issues, aside from one light behind the HVAC controls that went out. Mechanical: Aside from the starter motor which conked out after about 50K, nothing wrong. The V6 was professionally maintained with about 5 to 6 oil changes a year. She pulls nicely for it's size, and I am still on the original brake linings (always pump the brakes). Overall: Third seat only used once, and never again. I wish I could remove it for the added space and weight savings. Manumatic transmission likes to upshift too early sometimes, but seems intuitive to my needs - no complaints. The seats could be better. Highway ride excellent, and very quiet considering the Jeep's a box on wheels. Lots of cargo capacity. Parking Assist sensors connected weakly to bumper and pop off. I super-glued them back without any fuss. Overall, not a great vehicle, but certainly a darned good one. No need to write about how it performs in the soft stuff like snow - it's a Jeep after all! Strengths: Cargo Capacity (with third row seat folded flat) Dashboard Functionality Ease of routine maintenance Controls Road manners (highway) Performance in snow Parallel parking is a breeze (thanks to Park Assist sensors) Weaknesses: Park Assist sensors weakly connected to rear bumper V6 a little weak Dashboard light went out early Starter motor went early Ride on uneven paved surfaces |

Summary: If you want to have your feet in the water while driving, then certainly go for it. Since I bought this car second hand at a car dealer, I am having problem with water entering the car from the roof onto the floor, on the right side of the card in the back. And having like 6 inches of water in the car each time it rains, is not fun at all, I know I am a former marine seals but still not fun. I read reviews online on this issue and looks like it is a major defect of jeep on those models and jeep cherokee but they will not put a recall to fix those. So I went ahead to the jeep dealer and they asked me $250 just to look at it, like they did not know nothing about this problem that affects all those cars. I call this a scam on wheel! Good thing the car dealer from which i bought the car (not jeep) is a honest business and they called a "water doctor", kept my car for a week and finally fixed most of the issues with this leak. Just you know, they built this car with the pipe coming out of the drain from the roof top, way too short, so it is not connected at all to where it needs to so the water gets out the car and not poor in your car. If you go to jeep and they tell you to change the joints from the door, this is another scam - has nothing to do with it ; just another way to make money. I still have a drop of water coming out from the passenger handle in the ceiling on the back, but it does not result in a river in my car, so I ll let it alone for now ; i am tired to spend time sitting at the dealership while they try to figure out the problem. This is my fault trying to buy an american car ; I should know better. I do love it otherwise.. smooth ride, comfortable, safe... just make sure to put your swimsuit on :-) As the result of the leak, i also have lost the lights behind the ventilation switch and we still trying to figure out this one. we changed the whole module but still no light so, at night, driving, you don t see what you doing with the air, the heat and so on. Strengths: smooth ride, comfortable, good engine strength, feel safe Weaknesses: water leak inside, poor customer service at Jeep and huge attitude, and not just with me ; i ve seen a lot of unhappy customers there while I was waiting for my turn |

Worst purchase ever- Jeep Commander

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: This is the worst purchase we have ever made. I highly suggest staying away from Jeep! We had 3 Toyotas and never had any issues besides regular maintenance. Since we have had our Commander the issues keep growing and growing. First off ours is a 2007 Commander V6 but feels more like a 4 cylinder. I think our old Nissan Sentra had more power. The issues we have are, the transmission over temp light comes on, occasionally the windows don't go up or down, it leaks water every time it rains and it shorts out the speakers and the latest we get a message saying service park assist system and them the vehicle wont accelerate we have to coast to a stop. Then you take it to the Jeep dealer and they can never recreate anything so they never fix anything. Now our warranty ran out and we are stuck with a POS! Strengths: Really the only thing I like about it is that it seats 7. But even then you lose your cargo space. Weaknesses: Blind spots, no power, horrible at towing a trailer |

Problems with water in floor board after it rains.

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: I have a 2007 Jeep Commander that has about 130,000 miles on it. We drive from North Carolina to Florida monthly. I have not had any major problems until the last few months. Every time it rains I have about two inches of rain in the drivers side floor board and I noticed the handle near the wind shield had water running out of it. Every now and then all of the lights on the dashboard will flash but my car has never cut off. In the month of September my rear differential had to be repaired and the cost was around 1200.00. I think that there must be water damage behind the dashboard because I have problems with my heat and air. The knob turns off but the heat and air still blow on low speed and you can't completely turn it off. I also have a mildew and mold smell in the car. Strengths: Looks great, roomy and very comfortable for long drives. Weaknesses: Gas mileage not very good. Water leaking in car. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I thought the jeep was classy, beautiful, strong, sporty and would meet all needs for male/females and every lifestyle. What a disappointment with the jeep! I must say I hate the vehicle and hate that I OWE twelve thousand and can't get rid of it without losing alot of money! We have called everyone and no one would help. We also had the extended warranty- what a waste of money! Strengths: The size is great and it is great looking! Weaknesses: The power system would shut down while driving, dash lights go on and off, all front head lights and tail lights would go out always when it was dark, engine would shut down while driving, tires wear out with in a year, leather seats are spliting, paint coming off on the hood, and now the noise coming from the engine is like a beat from a drum and the sound off the tires is like a transfer truck. I have been a lady and ask the delearship to help and then I lowered myself to act not lady like and still no help. I work hard for my money and need a reliable vechile. I haven't found a mechanic yet that can fix all the problems that keep reoccuring and one that hasn't said its the worst vechile that has ever been made. Don't buy a Jeep Commander or any Jeep or Crysler product! I made a huge mistake and will never make another one with this company! SHAME ON YOU CRYSLER- AMERICAN TAX DOLLARS SAVED YOU AND YOU WON'T FIX YOUR MISTAKES ON THE JEEP! |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: This was the worst new car purchase that we've ever made. We bought the vehicle brand new in 2006 for about $35,000 and after a couple of minor warranty repairs, everything was great for about a year. That was as good as it got. We've replaced three of the four internal door panels and interior handles twice. The first time the door panels were covered under warranty but subsequest failures (after the warranty were not). I also experienced the problem with the dashboard lights flashing and ignition cutting out. It was intermittent and of course could never be duplicated in the shop DURING the warranty period. This was traced back to a bad ignition switch - the discover finally made AFTER my warranty expired. I had an exhaust leak at the manifold after about 18 months which was repaired under warranty but has now re-occured. I've added this to the "to-do" list. I've replaced the AC motor twice and the condensor once. Now I have a problem with the AC in which it will blow cold for about an hour and thats it, it will start blowing warm air. If I shut the AC off for about 1/2 hour and restart it, sometimes it will blow cold again. I've had the AC filled and there isnt a leak otherwise it wouldnt start blowing cold air again the next time I start it. Maybe somehow the line is freezing? This all started at about 50K miles. Rear seats are badly stained on the fabric panels (the rest of the seat is leather) even though no one eats or drinks in the vehicle (at least not in the back seat) and there have been no spills. Exterior paint on any plastic components (bumpers and fender flares)has faided from fire engine red to an orange color. The paint fading started, conveniently, after the warranty expired. We are in Florida but it is garage kept most of the time. My front seatbelts no longer buckle without depressing the release button, inserting the buckle, then releasing. There is nothing jammed inside of them it just looks like they fell apart on the inside. As a result of this, the fasten seat belt chime stays on ALL the time. I'm probably going to replace the belts myself at some point soon. The front two side windows do not close all the way without depressing the power window button multiple times and holding it just right. I'm afraid to go to the dealer to get this one repaired as I can only guess on the amount of this repair. Looking to address the obvious issues as quickly as possible and simply trade/sell as soon as I can. If your looking for an SUV, do not walk but RUN away....they dont make these any longer for a reason. They may look good to some but reliability is definitely not there in this Chrysler failure. Strengths: Looked good and ran well for the first 12,000 miles. Weaknesses: Poor gas mileage, very poor quality interior parts used in this model. So much for Jeep durability in this one! |

I have had this XK for 3 years and put approximately 50k miles on it, thats 3 round trips between Dallas and Phoenix with about 18 months of desert off road fun. My dash lights flickered as mentioned I replaced the battery and haven't seen that issue again. I also had the water leaking from the grab handles I fixed this as well I like to say the tear ducts were clogged. the sun roof has drain holes in the forward corners I bought some jewelry wire from hobby lobby took a 20 foot strand doubled and twisted it making a snake that fit in the duct added some water and worked it clean the water should drain just behind the front wheels. Strengths: lots of room, tows a trailer Great, can handle anywhere you want to go Weaknesses: 3rd row seating is small "but I never use it anyways" |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: We purchased the 2006 commander with 40,000 miles on it. It seemed to be fine for about 6 months. The electrical issues started as constantly blowing rear brake lights, then the power windows would randomly stop working, and then while driving the dash lights and headlights would turn off and on rapidly, kind of looked like a police car with its lights on. Next the blower motor went out and the blower motor control burned up. The transmission went out at 50,000 and the replacement transmission now pops out of gear randomly when accelerating. The power steering rack leaks, and one of the thermostat housing bolts snapped off in the aluminum block. Steel bolt in an aluminum block with ALOT of lock-tite from the factory. The vehicle now has 100,000 miles on it and I guess I am kind of used to dealing with the electrical problems, but I am going to see if I can get some kind of answer from Jeep after reading all of the other reviews. Strengths: Great traction in snow, stereo system. Weaknesses: Transmission, electrical issues, blind spots |

Summary: We have a 2006 Jeep Commander, had it for maybe a year. So far, we have had to put a new starter on it, when it rains or even a car wash, water leaks into the holding grips. Finally, we can't figure this one out. But, randomly when we drive, all of the lights will come on on the dashboard and then everything turns off, yet the Jeep still drives. Wish I never would have bought this. Seems there is an ongoing occurance of electrical problems. Shouldn't there be a recall?? Strengths: Seats all my kids Weaknesses: Most everything |

Summary: I traded in my 04' F-150 Fx4 for a 2008 Commander with 60k on it. After owning about 2 weeks, I started smelling burning oil. I figured maybe the dealer tech spilled a bit on the exhaust when they changed it. Then I noticed puddles of oil on my garage floor. I rolled under it on my creeper to find that the rear main seal was leaking. I called the dealer and they covered it under my 30 day warranty, no problem. A few weeks later, it gets hot outside. I go to flip on the a/c and it doesn't work. So I charged it on a machine at work and it started working fine. The next day I heard a hissing coming from the rear. Again, I grab my creeper and investigate. The a/c line running to the rear evaporator from the front was leaking pag oil & freon. I thought, YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! I again called the dealer to tell them this thing is turning into a peice of junk. Since I was out of warranty, they wouldn't cover it all, but they worked with me and are paying for most of the bill, but its still gonna cost me $250. Strengths: Looks sweet! Especially with 20's! Can fit alot of people with the third row. The dealership! O'Hara Chrysler Jeep Dodge has been great. Weaknesses: Read above. |

Other than normal wear and tear like tires and brakes I can't really complain to much even though it has some issues like the passenger window won't go all the way up unless I finagle with this switch. Strengths: Been a solid vehicle personally for me. Weaknesses: 1. GAS MILEAGE SUCKS!!! 2. BLIND SPOTS LIKE CRAZY. 3. VEHICLE SUCKS TO TAKE ON ROAD TRIPS WITH 7 PEOPLE. 4. NO CARGO ROOM WITH REAR SEATS UP. 5. STADIUM SEATING SUCKS, ONLY GOOD FOR LITTLE KIDS. 6. IF I FART THE FABRIC STAINS. 8. WEAK A/C 9. NO REAR SPEAKERS |

Once it is towed to a dealer I am told a valve spring has broken and damaged the piston. NEW ENGINE coming!!!! Jeep and Chrysler no help. Too far out of warranty (lifetime powertrain doesnt apply since I am not the original owner). Love the comfort and roomie-ness. Prior to this no issues. Summary: I purchased a 2010 Jeep Commander with onlly 10,000 miles. Within a week, I smelled what appeared to be fumes coming from the the engine. Also, the moon roof stalls. I took the vehicle in for services and I was told it had a blown head gasket! I questioned how can that be when I just purchased the vehicle and it was a certified vehicle. I haven't taken it in for the moon roof problem because I had gone at least twice for the fumes smell. So, I will be taking it in for the electrical problem. Overall, I really like the vehicle; I feel good in it and it rides nice. I am nervous about the electrical problem because I have had electrical problems with most of my vehicles and really wanted a break! Strengths: Look good, roomy, good road performance and overall and really nice quality vehicle. Weaknesses: Possible electrical problems. |

Summary: I have owned my car since new, and have had NO problems, electrically or otherwise. I loved driving it, and I found it was easier to park than my old Honda Pilot, because it was narrower. It has so many bells and whistles, like rear camera, and remote start. The car also performed well. One complaint I have is that when the back seats are up, the rear vision is somewhat blocked. The other issue is that the resale value is awful. However, it has served me well while my children were in middle school, and I needed to drive packs of kids around. I have owned Jeeps for the last fifteen years, and plan on getting another. Strengths: Great looking car, lots of room, many bells and whistles. Weaknesses: Gas mileage, resale value, blind spot when rear seats are up. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I purchased a brand new 2006 Jeep Commander, Hemi, 4x4, fully loaded. First brand new car purchase for me & the worst experience. What a disappointment. It's a beautiful car on the outside but beware. A mechanics dream and owner's nightmare!! Thank goodness I purchased an extended warranty on the darn thing as it has helped with some of the expenses. 2 weeks after owning the car, there was a bad knocking noice in the engine. Had it taking to the dealership twice, of course they couldn't duplicate the issue. 2 mechanics who heard it all told me it was the lifters. Nothing ever got done & to this day, still makes a knocking noice without any warning. Like the others, this car has left me stranded a total of 5 times. Has had 3 batteries put in. The last battery change seemed to help but pray ever time I start my car that it doesn't happen again. Had to replace both front & Back brakes at 12,000 miles & had to do another back roter & back break change at 30,000 miles. At 40,000 the front left wheelbearings went out. Then at 77,000 miles the radiator leaked & had to be replaced & the windshield wiper pump went out & had to be replaced. But that's not it......I can't get but 15,000 miles out of the tires I put on regardless of the brand. I have had to put new tires on my Jeep each year I have owned it. They are rotated on a regular basis so I don't know what the heck is going on. The tires wear terribly on the outside & inside with plenty of tread still left in the middle. I have had to do so much maintenience to this car for it being brand new & well taken care of. Couldn't give this vehicle away at this point, nor would I want to burden anyone down with the expense! Strengths: Looks good! Rides nice. Weaknesses: Too many issues to mention. |

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: My Jeep Commander 2007 has been in the dealership for repairs for Electrical Problems three separate times. I have been repeatedly stranded and the car would not turn over. After getting a new battery, the vehicle ran for two weeks. Then it would not turn over. I luckily had the extended Service Contract and had it towed to the dealership where they found bad wiring in the steering column. They replaced the ignition switch and wiring in the column and it ran for two weeks. Then again it would not turn over. Had it towed a second time and they replaced the starter this time. The vehicle ran for just over 3 weeks, then again I was left stranded this time in a mall parking lot. I let it sit for a couple hours and then it started up. I took it to the dealer and they acknowledge this is a BIG problem and they would need Chrysler mechanics to fix it. They staed that when they ran test that they received an "arching bad current" mentioning T-750 circuit. They said the bad wiring was running from the Power distribution center to the starter so no matter replace of starter with the bad wiring it would stop again. The service manager said that "CHRYSLER frowns on replacing entire wiring harness, as it costs $2200". He said they were testing each and every wire. Now that my vehicle has been in the shop for three separate inscidences, it is subject to the LEMON LAW. I'm pursuing such. Strengths: Lots of room. Weaknesses: BAD WIRING. UNRELIABLE. CHRYSLER doesn't even know the problem. This is why they only made COMMANDERS for two years then stopped. |

Summary: I bought a 2006 Commander Limited Hemi and all the whistles. Absolutely first class. Of course it eats gas. Gee no kidding. This is not a 4 banger. Highway, offroad, everything is easy for this gentle giant. Jeep was on to something with this machine but decided with the economy et al to discontinue. Oh well. As rarity sets in and those driving so called elite 4 X 4s at double the price figure it out the Commander will remain in itself exotic. Perfect in everyway. Strengths: Comfortable, looks great, interior and ammenities super, strong engine and a knock out offroad capacity. Rides nice on the highway too. Just be smart and use the appropriate tires. Off road for Off road, Highway for highway, etc. etc. I ride Pirelli. Dreamweaver. Weaknesses: Those crying about electrical weakness check out your solinoid on the steering mechanism. It can drain off your battery if you are not careful and attentive. It could shut you down but change it and no more worries. |

Summary: My 2006 only has 46K miles. I had to replace the brakes, the tires, the alternator, the battery, ignition and its been in the dealership lots of times. The window motors, the AWD module, air conditioning and I've pretty much spent so much money that I can't afford to get another car. Now all my dashboard lights are coming on all at once while driving then they go out. The ABS, road hazard, tire pressure and all the rest. I bought it brand new and I paid it off. Everything just keeps getting worse. I can't afford to get another car. This is my third jeep and the most expensive. This is the only one I've ever had so many problems with and has cost me so much money. I can't afford to keep paying for car rentals. AAA has saved me so many times but rental is not covered unless your in an accident. If I didn't have AAA I would have been stranded so many times. I really dislike my commander for letting me down in so many ways :( Strengths: Roomy. Looks Good! Weaknesses: Everything BIG Disappointment |

Summary: I am a 64 yr old female on a fixed income having problems with my 2007 jeep commander while driving, the car would stall out and I would immediately put on my hazard flashers, pulling to the side of the road in the midst of traffic to protect my life. Those were very scary events, the next day I took my car to a repair shop to find out is was a computer problem that only a dealership should repair, and from there it has been nothing but a nightmare. The part was order as of five days it hadn't come in, and the dealership doesn't offer lenders (Who can afford to do a rental). First few days I was told it was do to snow and sleet that the part was undeliverable, okay I can understand an act of God, but the dealership didn't call me to inform me as to when the part would be delivered, so I called them, to hear, oh I forgot to call you, however your part is on back order and I don't know when the part will be coming in. I then went on line and found a dealership on my own that had the part and was willing to ship it to my dealer. Called the service adviser, he said okay I will get my parts man to call the part store, just give him the info, which I did, found out two hours later the dealership had never called for the part. Please do your home work on dealerships, before using them and please do your research on cars before purchasing. This car and dealership has been my worst nightmare. Strengths: I purchased a top of the line fully loaded with navigation and every feature you could imagine. Weaknesses: Gas usage, expensive parts and service. |

2006 Jeep Commander Limited

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: We purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited with all the trimmings and about 85,000 miles in October of 2010. Within two weeks we had a "Service 4WD System" notice lighting up the dash. We took it to the dealer we purcheased it from and they diagnosed it as a faulty FDCM. We didn;t have the cash on hand to fix it right then and there so we said we'd schedule a time and come back (which is hard in itself because of the distance to the dealership). In the beginning of December the car started shifting funny, and within a day the check engine light came on, the transmission slipped excessively and shifted harshly. Took it to one shop and they said the trans had an internal problem and would require a rebuild. Took it to another shop and they said the same thing. So here is our top of the line Commander with multiple problems. Now 3 grand in the hole, we tooke the vehicle back to the dealer to complain, and they offered to repair our FDCM. The dealership replaced the FDCM, and it still has not fixed the problem (even as I write this, I am sitting in the waiting room while they try to figure out what's wrong). While I like alot of things about the vehicle, a detailed search of the internet will reveal this SUV's weaknesses. And they are expensive. I recommend you do intensive research and require detailed service records and a good warranty before you purchase. Stay away from 2006 model years completely!!! Strengths: Powerful engine, handles well for a large SUV. Weaknesses: Too many electrical gremlins, weak transmissions, terrible track record. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I purchased my 2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 v8 in Feb of 2009. I got a heck of a deal on my purchase, but as they always say you get what you pay for. When I first purchased my Jeep there were a few minor problems with some of the features which werent anything major. Then 8 months into owning my car I started having issues with my car starting. I was at a gas station and after pumping gas my car wouldnt start I tried everything and couldnt get it to start, had to have it towed to a garage and once at the garage before they did anything it started right up, after that it randomly left me stranded with the same issue, no one could find anything wrong with it they just kept fixing things that "might" be the problem now every time I drive it I have to pray it will start back up for me, most times I had to wait a few hours without messing with it for it to start again. Now I have been having some type of electrical problems and after reading these reviews I'm not the only one. I work nights and I hate it when all my dash lights start going on and off like crazy it even inter fears with my headlights causing them to go on and off while driving at night, hopefully I dont ever pass an officer when this is happening or a deer runs out in front of me. I love my jeep I just wish that I didnt have so many problems with it. Seems like every day something goes wrong, I havent listed all the problems I have had because the list just goes on. Im starting to wonder if its even worth keeping. However I have a friend who purchased a 2007 model and has yet to have any problems. I still prob. would never recommend this vehicle to anyone Strengths: Love the way it looks both inside and out, very spacious. handles extremely well, I live where we get alot of snow and I never have to worry about how it's going to handle, it will climb icy snow covered roads going up hill with no problems Weaknesses: Major electrical issues,Starting problems,Alot of mechanical issues, weather stripping, seats stain extremely easy even with water. Has alot of blind spots. It's trail rated and I dont even dare take it off road. Alot of the extra features either dont work or stop working shortly after. Also has alot of water build up on the bottom of door so when you open it ur feet get soaked. I'm begining to wonder if I too will start to have water problems with my interior floors |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: Have had this 65th Annv. edition for 5 yr. & 75K. Having a father who owned a Ford/Subaru dealership & managed Dodge/Chevy for over 21 yrs... I have driven just about every typical car around. I can say, my Jeep has been a VERY reliable one. To date, only the blower motor has gone out. And after visiting a local salvage yard was able to replace in 15 minutes. Was hesitant when I first bought, as Mopar has a high drive train recall/problems, but Nope. Not me. I love my commander. I would buy another one tomorrow. Strengths: Good suspension. Love the looks. 2nd row seat have light recline that my children appreciate. Weaknesses: Blind spots. Read around. What you read is true. I keep my 3rd row down until needed just to improve visibility. Upholstery stains way to easy. Water spots seem harmless...not with this fabric. Sctochguard right away. |

Summary: We bought the Commander for my daughter at one year old. It was great for about a year. Then driving around a corner the brakes came on by themselves. The ESP and traction lights kept coming on. It would slow the car down randomly. We took it in and they initially replaced the switch. Then it happened again multiple times. We took it to the dealer. They replace the switch, gave it back. happened again. Any pattern here. They took it back replace several modules. some twice. Finally have told us that they can't fix it. This last time they had the car seven weeks. Have contacted Jeep/chrysler engineers to diagnose and fix the problems. Unable. We are now awaiting Chrysler Corporation to contact us. The dealer says they wash their hands of us. Strengths: Nice looking. Like the sound system Weaknesses: Electrical braking system tried to kill us. What an uncomfortable ride |

Summary: I thought I was the only one that was experiencing the same electrical issues with the Jeep Commander. Even after all the repairs and replacements, it still has the random and very inconvenient electrical issue where all the lights on the dashboard light up repeatedly. And for some reason, there is no clear reasoning or understanding from Jeep or any of it's authorized dealers. Also earlier this week my ABS system caused my rear brakes to lock up on me, this issue has been identified for a large majority of the 2006/2007 Jeep Commanders, but some how my vehicle is not on this particular recall list. Frustration is starting to set in when it comes to my vehicle, cause I truly bought it for its size and durability not thinking that all these issues would/could happen. While at the same time, if others are having this same problem electrical problems, why hasn't JEEP stepped up to the plate and come up with a fix. Strengths: Size Weaknesses: Various Electrical Issues |

Vehicle: 2008 Jeep Commander
Summary: We researched the heck out of the SUVs on the market - new and used. We wanted a gently used, roomy, family mobile to haul kids and dogs. We finally decided on a 2008 Jeep Commander (25,000 miles on it) with a Hemi and all of the other bells and whistles. We fell in love with the way it looked, handled, the interior, the electronics (MP3 player, DVD, souped up sound system, etc.), and the fun-factor of driving it. Sadly, we fell out of love in a hurry. Owned the vehicle for six months and had to have it towed to the dealer four times. It was dead as a doornail five times. It sat in our driveway more than we drove it. . . . not able to start it. It would begin as we were driving along on a road trip; the lights on the dash would begin to go on one by one. Soon all lights were on, we would pull off immediately, turn the engine off to cool and to check it out . . . then it would be COMPLETELY DEAD. Couldn't even lock it. Three different dealers replaced starters, electrical modules, ran diagnostics, you name it . . . and it still kept happening. Just when we would think all was well, the lights would come on and we would get stranded somewhere. AAA thought we had lost our minds, we were calling them so often for a tow. We searched the internet to find out if others were having similar electrical problems, and found that there were many others having the same thing happening. Some with serious consequences with Commanders stalling on freeways while traveling 65 miles per hour . . . and Jeep was not fixing the problem. The dealers had no clue what to do. Needless to say, we no longer have this frustrating, dangerous automobile. We needed a reliable, family car. This was NOT it. Strengths: Style. Function. Fun to drive. Weaknesses: Not reliable - chronic electrical problems. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I read all the other reviews & had to comment. My grandpa raised me up with Jeeps. As a little girl I would go off roading with him. I fell in love with the Jeep Commander '06. I special ordered my Jeep with leather brown interior & LT. Khaki paint w/no Hemi or 4x4 due to fuel costs in Cali. I loved my Jeep so much I got personal plates w/ 1 JEEPERS. People stopped me to look at my Jeep. It was my baby! I had problems from day 1. The first time I washed it, of course the first week I had it, water leaked in the windows. We went through 6 windshields. We had a handle come off, to door panels cracking, to back windshield wiper hose breaking. A/C sputtered & we were told it was leaves. It broke down again & we were told it needed freon. We were told we had to pay deductable while it was on warranty! The transmission had a slamming shift in cruise control. We had to pay out of our pocket while on warranty, shortly after our purchase, the fuel injection sensors. The quote leather seats wore a lot. We later found out that it is not leather that they use. The biggest problem is that I have had though is problems with mold & mildew smell from either the previously mentioned hose or ventilation issue. You can't fix mold. A few months ago I blogged my comments on Consumer Affairs site. A lemon law attorney contacted me. Just yesterday I surrendered it back to the dealership. Chrysler is paying me back the full price I paid for the vehicle. Another man who blogged on one of these sites got 75k for his vehicle & health problems from his mold situation. Strengths: I loved the looks and Jeep feel. I loved the color of my seats & just the overall interior design from the porthole vents, to the classy but yet rough looking design. I loved my Jeepers!!! I miss it!!! Weaknesses: All the above mentioned problems. Windshield, water leaks from improper molding, transmission, panel cracks, A/C issues, mold issues... |

Summary: I bought my jeep certified used with 19000 miles on it. While it was still under warranty it started doing the pop out of gear into neutral thing and jeep said they fixed the problem and did all of the checks and had me on my way. My jeep started having a hard time shifting and kept getting worse less than a year later. I took it in, and they informed me that the transmission is toast and I need to fork out $5,000 to replace it. The warranty just ran out 4 months ago. I think I will leave it at the dealership, in light of all of the other problems the jeep has proven to go wrong in this forum alone. Note to self. Don't buy a Jeep. Strengths: Roomy and nice looking Weaknesses: Not a well built machine to say the least. |

Summary: So frustrated. Bought my 2006 Jeep Commander about 6 mos ago. Second day I had it, strong rains came through and it was leaking from the front grab handles. Front drivers side carpet was soaked as well. Took it back to the dealership and they cleaned out the sunroof drain. That took care of the leak in the grab handles. Didn't have too much rain this summer so I didn't really notice any moisture from the small rains we had. Tropical Storm Nicole comes through and OMG - I might as well have been stuck in 4ft of water! The entire floor of the truck is soaked! So pissed. I did buy an extended warranty which I just looked at and of course....Correction of air/water leaks is not covered. Not that I think they would be able to find a solution to this problem. Seems like its a manufacturing blunder. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it preventable? I also have had the windshield "whistling" sound. Seems like that only happened when it was really hot outside. Strengths: Nice body style Weaknesses: Subpar interior, windshield style/whistling issue, constant brake dust OH any of course, feeling like I am living in a swamp in my car! |

Summary: I saw some notes on electrical issues, dash light sflashing on an off...intermittant. going off altogether. After multiple dealer visits a couple years ago...it was a BAD ignition switch. Start here. Forget all the other diagnostics. Windshield is screaming! I'm on my 4th windshield. The upright design allows rocks to smack hard instead of glancing off. Now the last install must have left a gap in the seal. Imagine a loud whistle for 600 miles with the kids..No good. Just replaced blower motor. Jeep parts are HIGHWAY ROBBERY! They wanted over $250 for an OEM motor (no labor). I bought one online, replaced it myself for under $70 total, in less than an hour. Thank you internet DIY. The door handles are cracking, and breaking. I've seen some DIY fixits on line for this...but I believe this needs to be a NHSTA SAFETY RECALL. Too many owners are reporting this failure. Imagine an accident, and broken handle and not being able to get out! That said. The good part. I have 103,000 miles on it. 6 cylinder. I thought I had lemon, but in retrospect, its taken a beating, and is still going. I'm concerned about the tranny (after reading reports here) and may have it looked at for preventative measures. Seat fabric is lousy, stain rings from bathing suits (not chlorinated pool water, kiddie pool - tap water.) Thats rediculous. Bought leather look seat covers a couple years ago. Strengths: 4 Wheel Drive is fantastic Exterior Design Durability once the weak popints were addressed Weaknesses: Bad Ingition Switch Fabric on seats Gas Mileage Weak and Cheap plastic door handles. Cracked panel and handle. Windshield Design too upright |

Summary: After two successful Jeep Cherokees, I bought a 2007 Commander in 2008. Two tires had slow leaks when purchased and had to be repaired at my expense. I've gone through two windshields (rocks hit the almost flat front window) in less than a year. My air conditioner failed at 48,000 miles or 25 months after I bought it. The original Jeep warrenty didn't cover the AC repair so I'm very glad I bought the optional Fidelity service warrenty. I will be selling my Commander and purchasing a reliable vehicle. Strengths: Jeep brand Weaknesses: Poor gas mileage, front windshield design is flawed, last row of seats is not suitable for adults, AC failed way too early, expensive maintenance schedule |

Summary: I had a 92 Cherokee before buying this brand new luxury SUV. What a joke. Started with the rear differential that has been replaced 3 TIMES and sounds like it needs to be done again. The dealership told me I got it too wet....submerged the diff in the snow and mud...no kidding, it's a jeep-why else buy something rugged! Next we had the PRNDL Bezel go...what is that, it's the module in the shifter that tells the transmission what gear you're in. So it basically pops out of gear at random intevals or when you hit a bump...but if you whack the shifter hard enough it pops back in....next the air bags sensor goes. The mileage sucks..I have the sales ticket that states fuel mileage to be 24mg on the hwy..i'm lucky if I can get 15...and it's only the V6. Sucks dust something fierce, all through the back lift door which the panel with the pull down handle has now broken. Water leaks in the windshield and if you powerwash it..it will leak through the doors too! Not Cool Chyrsler/Jeep. Strengths: Drives nice....would make a great soccer mom vehicle. Weaknesses: Not rugged like you would expect of a Jeep. Poor quality of parts and workmanship. Not olnly that but the dealers don't support them. It's a Service departments dream....straight cash in their pockets. |

Vehicle: 2010 Jeep Commander
Summary: I was recommended this vehicle. I drove it and loved it - primarily the head room for my husband and the turning radius and ride. Then, it started to rain!!!! I have never seen so much water on the inside of a vehicle that was not submerged in a lake! Water was running down both sides of the windshield, from behind the handgrip moulding. My feet were standing in water which splashed like a puddle. The nearest Jeep dealer said it should be swapped out -- bad vehicle and electrical/electronic problems would result from the water damage. ED VOYLES JEEP in Atlanta refused to swap out the vehicle and kept saying that the drains were clogged by tree debris -- Sorry, we don't live in a desert!!!!!! Strengths: Lots of little storage compartments. Nice ride. Turning radius great. Automatic wipers/high beam is great. Weaknesses: Very bad engineering - no gasket around windshield where the top of the windshield meets the metal of the roof -- that, combined with this mystical drain problem, results in you getting wetter in your car when it rains than if you were standing outside in the rain -- Dealership refuses to take responsibility once you buy it!!!!! AVOID THIS VEHICLE AND ED VOYLES IN ATLANTA AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! |

It has the 3.7L with 4x4 and it can basically go anywhere, I have lifted it thrown some bigger tires, the way it comes out of the factory is a JOKE!! Overall I'm ok with it, I wished I could of gotten a Rubicon, but it holds everything for a 2 week vacation. I wish jeep would have put a solid front axle in them. But its paid off and I can live with that. Strengths: good turning radius, lots of storage, Weaknesses: VERY LOW GROUND CLEARANCE, seat fabric sucks, not enough aftermarket gear for this, |

Comfort (I can spend up to 12 hours a day in my car), simple dash, satillite radio capability, seats 7 (if two in the rear are small children), cargo-capable. Weaknesses: MILEAGE - I average around 14MPG. High-pitched whine comes from the windshield (due to cracks had to replace - no longer an issue). Have to take it in for ECM - having serious transmission issues. |

Vehicle: 2008 Jeep Commander
Summary: I should have bought my wife this commander a long time ago. We purchased this gem used with 60,000 miles on it (it is only 2010) so to say this previously used and abused rental lasted this long says a lot about this product. If you seriously bought this thing to get groceries and pal around with your mercedes owning soccer moms you should have looked at the other Jeep products and researched what they are about. No non-sense extreme winter/offroad capabilities. If you want to be a **gina about it buy a caddy or a benz. Compared to my XJ this thing is the cats meow. Strengths: Great power even from the V-6. Precise cornering(could take this to RFR raceway and whip small cars. Jumped it a few times about 2 feet in the air and still rides like a dream. Plenty of space without third row seat. Standrard convenience features are all that you need, heck it's a Jeep for crying out loud. Super quiet on road and off. Snow plow. Excellent gas mileage for a car with the aerodynamics of a dumpster. Weaknesses: Raked front end allows deep snow and water to crest the hood when flogging through adverse conditions. No selectable transfer cases(own an XJ with NP-242)ability to take out of permanent four wheel would save some gas. Not enough ground clearance, too low. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: Great looking vehicle. Was thought to be the best Mother's Day gift ever until the big troubles occurred. Transmission has died at 44k 10 miles away from the dealership after being told it was a small leak, fluids were topped off until I could return in a couple days to pay the $1400 to replace the adapter plug assembly at the solenoid and have all the fluids flushed and replaced. 2nd and 3rd estimates by transmission specialists prove the dealership was way off and Jeep transmissions are of frequent repair concerns. My tires are the orignal tires on the vehicle bought brand new that have outlasted the transmission. Now that is sad and something to think about. Strengths: Seat warmers are the best. Comfortable ride for family of four with 2 dogs. Great looks. Roomy when all seats are folded down for hauling. Weaknesses: Transmission. Electrical issues, dashboard lights and displays go wacky and light off and on for no apparent reason. Again, dealership can't explain. Sluggish when turning corners. Second row leather seats have fabric paneling where back meets base along seat belt clip. Why? it gets dirty to easy and is an eye sore. |

Summary: Good vehicle for the 1st month I owned the car. I have only owned this vehicle for 13 months and it has been in the shop 8 times. Strengths: Plenty of room for the family, love the heated seats and sun roof Weaknesses: Well my problem is that when I'm driving or at an idol the entire electrical system will go off and back on. Lasts anywhere from a few seconds to 10 minutes and is intermitten. Don't know what causes the issue and no dealership yet has found a problem. The engine continues to work but nothing electrical. So I have to be careful when I drive in fear of the electrical system may go off and not come back on. Want to trade in but I owe too much on this vehicle at this time. |

Summary: All around great vehicle and is just what a it ought to be. No issues with anything. I flat tow it behind my Motor Coach. I got the Hemi 4x4, for towing and to seat 6 person and the dog. It serves this purpose flawlisly. Strengths: Hemi has all the power ypou would need in a 4x4. The room is great for what we grandparents need. The 3 seating give a great view for the 2 older in the middle seat and 3rd seats are just high enough for the 2 youngets to see. We have all the options and they all work great. The kids like the dvd player and the rear heater & A/C. Drives great and the last seat folds down for our dog. Weaknesses: None, The gas milage is whats expected for a 4X4 vehicle that weighs 6200+ lbs. I guess if I was exspecting 25-30 miles to the gal, I'd get one of those throw-away japanese things. |

Summary: I agree with the previous poster. My 2007 commander has completely died on my while going over 70 mph, this has happened about 3 times. We have taken it to the dealership and they say "we can't find anything". The engine also revs up while sitting at a light and I agree it is very scary. Now it is at 37K miles and it did it again to me this morning, died going 70mph on the middle lane of the freeway. Truly a terrifying experience! I bet when we take it in this time they will find all kinds of things wrong with it now that it is out of warranty. We found that this has happened to many people so we are looking into what we can do. I don't even want to get back in it to drive home. Strengths: It started out a great vehicle and I now have nothing good to add. Weaknesses: Completely dying in traffic going 70 mph. Third row seats leave extremely low visibility out the back. Rain water collecting in the door. Rain water leaking inside the car. |

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: I see why the American Car Industry is failing. The Jeep Commander engineers should sell these cars to the terrorists as they are a certain death trap!!! I haven't even got to 40k miles! First the transmission "revs" randomly at idle and if you are not quick on the brakes the car will lundge into cross walks and school children. Second nothing in the car holds up to any normal use. The second row seat belt fasteners are so low in the seat you can never find them when securing a child. The air conditioning only works in intervals. The front windshield is a bug and rock magnet. There is no room for adults in the thrid row seating and children would not be able to escape the third row in a crash. The weather striping falls of. The brakes pads don't last. I'm thinking about surrendering this 30k piece of ....... for the safety of my family and some piece of mind. DO NOT BUY A JEEP COMMANDER! Strengths: Turning radius, "Command" second row seating. Weaknesses: Everyting but the two strengths |

Summary: Good solid car with good ride and appearance. Comfortable around town and handy for carting around items in the rear. Wife's car she likes the safety factor and appearance, too. However, see problem in weaknesses below with loud screaming wind noise outside vehicle. Strengths: Solid, handles well, looks good, inside comfort great. Weaknesses: When we are on the highway and going over 60 a sudden high pitched screaming sound comes from outside the car. Will drive you nuts to distraction..making you nervous. Antenna? Rack? Help!! |

Summary: Looks nice, drives nice, but that is all I can say that is nice about it. Strengths: Sure footed. Weaknesses: I have never had so many problems with a new vehicle and I have bought quite a few. First the seat belt was to short, then the radio went out ( now for the 2nd time), the sunroof leaked (not drained correctly), transmission has locked up twice and they can't find a problem, had to to replace seals one the transmission plug. Would not recommend vehicle or dealership to anyone. Jeep needs to get their act together. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: No matter how gentle I drive 14-15.5 mpg is all I can get on hi-way. Epa was rated 18 mpg. Feel like I was screwed by the dealer and Jeep. Strengths: none Weaknesses: gas milage, workmanship, wheels(CORRODING), sounds like exhausht system rattling on take off. All around crappy vehicle for the money. no trade in value. too boxy, bought a bug shield to try and eliminate some of the bugs hitting windshield, $130.00 wasted. |

Commander Sport with 28U package

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Walpole, MA)
Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Commander
Summary: We've got just over 2500 miles on our 07 Commander. Overall, we love the Jeep, it's been a huge surprise for us because we keep finding little touches that show some real engineering thought. Our Sport 28U is light graystone with gray sport wheels. The exterior color hides the dirt nicely, and the darker gray wheels give the Jeep a sporty look. The 28U package comes with leather interior, heated seats, sunroof, adjustable pedals, and a whole host of additional interior features. I can happily recommend this vehicle as it's designed. Now lets see how it does over the next several years. Strengths: The ride and NVH were a huge surprise for us, it's really great. I can't believe how low the wind noise is on the highway considering we're driving a vehicle with the aero qualities of a barn door. The Sport comes with the 3.7l V6. I like this engine; it sounds great, it has decent pull down low, though it's a bit slow to accelerate at highway speeds (nothing embarrassing though). The engine bay has plenty of room allowing DIY work. I love the built in oil filter drip catcher. The interior is great, though the fake diamond plate trim isn't the most attractive I've ever seen. The features are really great; adjustable pedals, heated seats, wheel mounted radio controls, rear parking assist, etc. The kids love the 3rd row and it's associated heat controls and cup holders. The reclining 2nd row rear seat is a HUGE bonus along with the rear seat sunroof panels. One of my wife's favorite features is the remote start. It's not great for the average fuel mileage, but it's great for keeping her happy. When mama's happy, everybody's happy. Weaknesses: On the downside, fuel mileage is horrendous, though we knew this going into it. The 3.7 is rated at 15/19... I don't think there are hills long enough to attain 19mpg anywhere where I live. We average 14/15 mpg. The rear suspension is on the too soft side; with 7 people aboard you can completely compress the suspension over bumps; thankfully carrying 7 people is a rare occurrence. The cargo space behind the 2nd row is acceptable, but nonexistant with the 3rd row in place. A lip at the edge of the cargo area to hold loose items would be nice; we've dropped several items that have moved when we open the hatch. |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I love the look and ride of my Commander. This mid-size SUV is great, I am able to take my family with me when they are in town and it fits in my garage. The gas milage is not the best but I knew that when buying it, but safty with my 8 month old was an issue and I feel safe that inpacts and snow will not stop us. Strengths: Will go through any snow, and it goes into 4X4 itself when needed. Love the rear heater. Weaknesses: Gas milage isn't the best. |

Summary: I recently purchased a 2007 Commander with a 3.0 common rail diesel engine. I am a soldier stationed in Germany so it is European specs. I love the ride. The computer says 13 liters per 100 km. The entertainment system is God's gift to parents. Strengths: Ride, comfort and great looks Weaknesses: No storage space with 3rd row seats in use and very little with them down. |

Better Than I Thought | |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: I bought this vehicle and traded in a 2003 Tahoe Z71. This Limited Version with a 5.7 Hemi is truly an awesome vehicle. It rides better than my old Tahoe and has more power and a classier appearance both inside and out. The chrome for the most part is fake though and the interior offers quite a bit less room than the Tahoe....even with the third row seats down. I don't think the mileage will be any better either even with the multi port. I get about 18 or a little less on the highway and only about 12 in town so far which is on par with the old Tahoe. All around the Commander is very pleasing to ride in, atleast the two front rows. With the third row up it is impossible to see out the back window but those seats for the most part will be down. The commander also offers more ground clearance and less overall height, width and length than the Tahoe. I am looking forward to seeing the durability of this ride over the first 3/36k. I think the look of this ride is very sharp and can be tricked out to look even better with a few additions like vent visors and running boards and such. Given the few drawbacks listed above if these aren't an issue for you this SUV should fill the ticket. A+ rating for the Jeep... my first Jeep. Strengths: Power, Style and Comfort are all heads above the competition. Weaknesses: Mileage not as good as it should be. Third row seating up, lack of visibility, Chrome is not all real. Less overall interior room for hauling than Tahoe. |

Weaknesses: fuel mileage terrible |

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Commander
Summary: Bought a new Jeep Commander with a v-8 (not the Hemi). The special edition is awesome. The sunroof was free and the car is gorgeous. It's really really really heavy and drives like a champ. It is very very safe and has a ton of cool features. It also is beautiful looking. THE GAS MILEAGE IS INSANELY POOR!! I am getting 12 miles per gallon with every day driving. That is absurd!! Strengths: Looks great, so comfortable, drives great, free sunroof with the "special edition" model, lots of gadgets! Weaknesses: The worst gas mileage you could ever imagine!!! 12 MPG with routine driving!! |
